Station at Masterton The executive of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society ' " ' decided to accept a recommendation of its fish research committee to establish a biological research station at Masterton. Mr. R. H. Nhnmo, chairman of the committee, said Mr. Phillips deserved every encouragement, and valuable research work could he done at Masterton. Certain practical work would be carried out by Mr. Miller, under the direction of Mr. Phillips. The secretary, Mr. E. I. C. Wiffen, said that the Central Research Committee bad voted £5 toward the expenses of the research work at Mastertoil. An offer from the Taumarunui Rod and Gun Club to supply the society with 500 quail at 2/- a bead was accepted. The secretary of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society advised that last year’s experiment of importing 700 cliukor from India, in which the Wellington society was interested to the extent, of 400 birds, had proved ail entire failure. One by on? the birds had died at Mr. Wise's farm. Forty' eggs were secured, and about ten efiieks hatched, but failed to survive long. The Auckland society had been equally unfortunate with another shipment of 122, about thirty survivors being still in quarantine, and unlikely ever to be released. The president. Mr. L. O. H. Tripp, who loft oil a visit to England by the Rangltane - _ ' , ..tote enclosing a cheque for £lO, which he suggested should be spent as a prize or prizes to the opossum trapper who catches the largest number of stoats, weasels and ferrets in the forest areas during the coming season. Mr. Tripp’s suggestion was accepted, and best wishes were voiced for bis welfare on his trip Home.
