Dairy Produce Quality
Sir, —Under the above heading Mr. G. F. Jloore, of Bushy Park, in a letter to “The Dominion” under date April 3, makes a series of charges against the quality of New Zealand butter and cheese. He states, inter alia, that “although a costly Dairy Board has been, functioning for many years in conjunction with representatives at Home, we never seem to have attained a proper standard for our butter and cheese; and until we produce the quality required by the consumer, we can never command the best prices.” Not having heard of Mr. Moore I am unable to judge his qualifications for making such a sweeping, and, if true, devastating statement. However, there is abundant evidence to disprove the allegations he has levelled against the industry. The following extract from a report recently supplied by the New Zealand Government Inspector in London to a Woodville dairy company, regarding a shipment of butter to Glasgow, should prove reassuring:—“Very choice quality; just right for Glasgow; this butter is very highly spoken of by the purchaser. Personally it is a long time since I remember having examined butter of such high quality. The flavour is sweet and as fresh as if it had just come out of the churn,” —I am, etc., “RAUMATI.” April 12, 1933.
