EASTER TENNIS

Miramar Tournament PLAY IN STRONG WIND Early Rounds Completed Events in the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association’s Easter championship and handicap tournament were well advanced after a full day’s play at Miramar'yesterday. Although a few of the leading men and women players are missing from the entries, there is an excellent representation of the rant z and file, and the standard of play in the matches ,jn the early rounds was high. Apart from a strong northerly ■wind, which proved troublesome throughout the day, conditions for play were good. So Jar there have been no very unexpected results in the championship events. E. H- Roussell, R. McL. leerkins, and K. W.-Dyer all had easy wins in the men’s singles. The best match in this event was in the second round between D. B. Livingstone and N. Bedford. Bedford won 6-3, 5-6, 6-4, after being very close two a two-set victory, In the third set his well-timed stroking and hard hitting were too much for Livingstone, who was getting no real length on his shots. The small entry in the womens singles seems to be dominated by Miss D. Howe and Mrs. . P.,Adams. Both had good wins, in the first round. N. Morrison and D. Howe have reached the final of the boys’ singles- They both won their semi-final matches by the score of 9-0. , , , Detailed results of yesterday s matches are as follow: — Championship Events ' MEN’S SINGLES.
