KING CARNIVAL

Easter Days at Eastbourne FUN TO SUIT ALL TASTES King Carnival will reign supreme at Eastbourne this Easter. Fun and adventure suitable to all tastes will be available at the Eastbourne Easter Fair in aid of the East Harbour Distress Fund. Never before, it is claimed, has such a fair been planned at any seaside resort within miles of Wellington, and amid the beautiful surroundings of the bay it will be possible to spend a holiday filled with enjoyment. Already the campaign has commenced in earnest and residents have displayed wonderful interest in the functions planned on behalf of the candidates in the Queen Contest. Everyone is buying and selling tickets in raffles and competitions, and the ferry boats, Muritai and Cobar, are Invaded by fair collectors working in the interests of competitors. In fact, the campaign is being extended into Wellington and even further afield, and prospective returns from these sources should be very satisfactory. Reports from all quarters indicate that the Eastbourne Easter Fair will be one of the most successful ever held in the district.' Dances, bridge parties, ping-pong tournaments, and many other festivities have been held in the interests of the queen candidates, and in this way many hundred votes have been gained for fighting funds. It will be extremely interesting to see the final count from these sources; the beauty of it being that no one but the committees themselves know how many thousand votes are being stored up in their party reserve accounts. These will not be handed over to the secretary of the Easter Fair until 9 o’clock on the night of April 22, when the final count will be made. The Queen of the l>air will be crowned at a ceremony to be held at the Day’s Bay Pavilion, and even the queen candidates themselves will not know until the final night who will be Queen-elect.
