LOCAL ELECTIONS
Roll to Close/To-day THE JOINT TICKET A large number of applications for inclusion in the supplementary roll for the municipal elections were received yesterday. During the last week several hundred names have been placed on the supplementary roll in Wellington. The roll will close at 5 o’clock this evening, and it is expected that there will be some crowding at the end of the afternoon. Nominations of candidates for the City Council, Hospital Board, and Harbour Board, will close on April 20, and the election will take place on May 3.
The omission of the names of two old councillors, Messrs. F. Meadowcroft and H. A. Huggins, from the joint ticket of the Civic League and the Ratepayers’ Association, has caused some comment. Both were sponsored by the Civic League at the election two years ago, and both were successful in obtaining seats on the City Council. Mr. Meadowcroft has had ten years as a city councillor, and Mr. Huggins has served for eight years. Mr. Huggins has already announced that he, will be a candidate, and Mr. Meadowcroft, who was undecided two days ago, has now 'agreed to his nomination, going forward.
