AN EARLY STATEMENT

Butter Exports Proposals GOVERNMENT POSITION “I am not yet in a position to make any announcement on the subje, t," said the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon, G. W. Forbes, when questioned last evening regarding developments in connection with the report that New Zealand butter exports to Britain are likely to be restricted. Mr. Forbes said he would probably make a considered statement on the subject at the week-end. He desired to confer on the subject with the Minister of Finance, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, leader of the New Zealand delegation to the Ottawa Conference, but, as Mr. Coates was obliged at the moment to give close attention to the Sales Tax Bill, now before the House, an opporr tunity for consultation was unlikely to occur before to-day. Mr. Forbes reiterated that thus far no direct communications on the subject had taken place between the New Zealand Government and the British Government.
