RUGBY RULES
Australia’s Requests ENGLAND SAYS “NO” Critical Situation Exists (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received Feb. 17, 7.55 p.m.) Brisbane, Feb. 17. It is understood that the English Rugby Union authorities have refused to agree to certain alterations to the rules of Rugby which Australian players consider vital in the interests of the game in this country. The authorities are awaiting a letter from England detailing the English views, hoping that some way out of the critical situation may yet be found. They contend that a return to the international laws will be fatal to the code in Queensland, which has 11 players in the Australian team going to South Africa in April. It is understood that it is also proposed to send an Australian Rugby Union colts team to New Zealand toward the close of the coming season if this is acceptable to New Zealand. The All Blacks will be invited to visit Australia in 1934 to meet the Wallabies, who will be fresh from their South African tour.
