AUCKLAND TROTS Excellent Fields Promised AN ANALYSIS OF FORM i (By “Overcheck.”) The Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting opens to-day and will be concluded on Wednesday. Special interest attaches to the fixture, as the wiu-and-plaee system of betting is to be inaugurated insolar as the light harness sport is concerned. Excellent acceptances have been received, and the racing should be of an exhilarating nature. The programme is as follows:— TRIAL HANDICAP (harness), of 110 sovs.; 3.48 class. One mile and a half. Autumn Lu ... scr Nelson Pirate . 72 Gala Day ser Wiriwhata .. 72 Grand Triumph ser Mattie La Triumph . scr Herbllwyn 72 Otara see Win Huon .... 96 Stardown ... scr Nieoya 10s Kohewab ... 30 Of the scratch division in the Trial Handicap, Autumn Lu has the best credentials, having run third and fourth at the last meeting, and she now comes in on a good deal better terms. Next to her, Nelson Prince, Wiriwhata, and Nieoya read best. The former ran a first and second hist meeting, going 3.37, while Wiriwhata registered 3.36 3-5 when he ran third to Kobewah and Golden Eagle. Nieoya raced well last season, and registered a win and a second over 141 furlongs at Greymouth in January. He is a good sort, but 108 yards is a lot to give away. The places may therefore be filled by Autumn Lu, Nelson Pirate, and Wiriwhata. WAIHEKE HANDICAP (harness), of 110 sovs.; 3.4 class. One mile and a quarter. Free Gift scr Student Prince scr Home Brew ... scr Te Mahanga .. scr Jester set Edna Worthy . 12 Lucky Love .. ser Nellota 12 Min Bells ser Raider 12 May Chenault , scr Gold Seam 24 Our Summer .. scr Historian ... 21 Pedlar ser Fisher 36 Iteglaa Derby . scr Pedlar, Edna Worthy, Nellota and Fisher are a likely quartet in the Waiheke Handicap. The first-named ran third over twelve furlongs in August, Fisher,'who started from the same mark, being fourth. Edna Worthy has a record of 2.54 over ten furlongs, while at Westland last month she won over a mile in 2.17 1-5, defeating some useful animals. Nellota has a winning record of 2.59 in heavy going, while in December .she was second over twelve furlongs run in 3.29 4-5. Fisher ran third over ten furlongs in August, and won in December over twelve furlongs, which he covered in 3.23 3-5. Pedlar was fourth in the race, again starting from the same mark as Fisher. All things considered preference may be shown for Pedlar, Edna Worthy and Nellota. OTAHUHU HANDICAP (harness), of 300 sovs.; 4.32 class. Two miles. First Flight ... scr Raydus scr Kewple's Guy . scr Silver de Oro . scr Kewple’s Wilma Dillon . 12 Triumph scr Peter Pirate ... 4S Pageant .... scr Auto Machine . 60 Silver de Oro promises to be a firm favourite for the Otahuhu Handicap, she having broken 4.24 once and 4.25 twice. She, should certainly do 4.28, and this may be sufficiently fast to secure a win. Pageant ran third on the concluding day, of the last Auckland meeting, and has been working well since. He then-regis-tered 4.25 2-5. Peter Pirate, who went 4.23 4-5 when he ran third to Great Parrish and Nelson’s Victory in the Auckland Cup, may do best of the others, though if a surprise is in store Kewpie's Guy may provide it. PAPAKURA HANDICAP (harness), of 120 sovs.; 3.28 class. - One mile and a half. Nelson’s Chum scr Lady Yvonne .. 12 Native Berry .. scr Modern Light . 12 Really ser Dad's Hope ... 24 Whippet scr Glandorc .... 24 Willie Derby .. scr Oliver Thorpe . 24 Free Logan ... 12 Kelp 48 Lady Coronado 12 The winner of the Papakura Handicap will probably come from the scratch division, which includes Whinpet, Willie Derby, nnd Native Berry. The latter hns a placed record of 3.25. registered at Wellington when she ran second to Indianapolis, while she was successful over .10 furlongs nt Auckland in December. Willie Derby does not always race up to form, but a repetition of that shown by him nt Addington, where he ran second in 3.19 4-5. would make him a tough proposition. There is no better judge than his trainer, who would hardly take him on such a long journey unless he was reasonably sure of paying expenses. Whippet raced well at Auckland in December over 10 furlongs, and is due for a win at an early date. Of those in the, second half of the 'handicap. Glandore and Kelp may do best. MOUNT ALBERT HANDICAP (harness), nt 129 sovs.; 3.36 class. One mile and a half. Mazda scr Pukemiro .... 30 Prince Etawab scr Eleawnb 48 Wee Machine .. scr Francis Lincoln 48 Clean r. 36 Mazda. Wee Machine nnd Francis Lincoln may receive most support in the Mount Albert Handicap, with k preference for the first-named, who has wop each of her last two races. Francis Lincoln won at Auckland in December in 3.24 4-5, and was third .in 3.21 2-5. Wee Machine raced well in August and October, but the other pair may prove too good at the handicaps. FEBRUARY HANDICAP (harness), of 150 sovs.; 3.36 class. One mile and a half. Bessie Parrish . scr Parrish Belle .. 12 Nieoya ser Dark McKinney 36 Zanzibar ser Windchat .... 48 Marble Star .. 12 Explosion .... 72 Mokn Girl .... 12 Tn the February Handicap Bessie Parrish, Parrish Belle nnd Nieoya should give a good account of themselves. The two former ran second and third respectively to Garner, Bessie Parrish registering 3.29 3-5 and Parrish Belle 3.28. The latter now meets th” former on 12 yards better terms. If these two run up to their December form., they will probably lead the field home. MOSS DAVIS HANDICAP (harness), of 145 sovs.: 2.47 class Ono mile and a quarter. Carnui scr Kewple's Gny .: 12 Kelp scr Nelson Tasker . 12 Haydns scr Pageant 12 Stiver do Oro .. scr Wilma Dillon .. 12 Te Wallin .... sc r Auto Machine 24 Brent Light .. 12 First Flight .. 24 Dan Direct .. 12 Keu-plc's Great Parrish . I'.’ Triumph 24 There is a strong field in the Moss Davis Handicap, which should provide a great contest. On the handicap as it stands. I am inclined to favour the chaii«-cs of Kelp. Silver <l» Oro. and Great Parrish, but Wilma Dillon. Kewpie’s Triumph, and First Flight should also be close up when the real racing begins. RAILWAY HANDICAP (harness), of 120 sovs.: 2.56 class. One mile and a quarter. Cleao scr Silver Bingen .. 24 Eieawah ser Hohoro 36 Great Fame .. ser Realty 36 Pukeniiro .... scr Homeward .... 4S Roy de Quest .. 12 Native berry .. IS Truman Direct 12 Whippet 48 Bell Dial Silver Bingen. Whippet and Pukemiro make the strongest appeal in the Railway Handicap. Silver Bingen raced very consistently on the West Coast of the South Island in January, and ran third to Worthy King and Royal Chenault at Ti'maru. going 2jH 2-5 from 2.54, the mark. he is now on. Pukemiro showed promising form earlier in the season, and may be the one who will trouble Silver Bingen most.
