Mr. G. Britt. Nelson, who has boon visiting Napier and Hastings, and is at present in Wellington, will return to Nelson this evening. Signor G. Formichilla, Consul for Italy, is visiting the South Island. He will return .on Saturday. Signor A. P. Truda has returned to ■Wellington after a six weeks’ holiday spent in tlie North Island. The Rev. R. J. Howie, Presbyterian chaplain to the Wellington Regiment, has resigned his commission as chaplain, fourth class. He has held the commission since 1926. Mr. W. Garrett, general manager of A. and T. Burt, Ltd., has been appointed to till the vacancy on the directorate caused by the death of Mr. 11. L. Tapley.- The appointment was made at a meeting of directors in Dunedin on January 23. Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P. for Manukau, was granted leave ot absence for the remainder of the present, session on tlie ground of ill-health by the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. Mr. Jordan recently left New Zealand on a visit to Great Britain. Mr. W. A. Hoden, acting chief inspector of schools for the Wellington district, who has been transferred to the Auckland district, was farewelled at the monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board this week. The chairman. Mr. T. Forsyth, and several other members of the board, referred to the excellent relationships which had. existed between Mr. Boden and the teachers of the district, and wished him every success In his new sphere of duties. Mr. Boden suitably replied.
