TESTED TIPS

(By Vera Wise.) Copyright.

If the house is to be left empty ,for any length, of time, it is a good idea to apply blacklead fairly thickly to the grate, allowing it to dry on, but not polishing it. This will prevent it from rusting, and a rub over when you return will make it bright. Court shoes are apt to stretch so that they slip off the heels. This can be remedied by glueing a piece of velvet round the top inside of the shoe. Undue wear on the stocking-heels is also prevented thus. Steel knitting-needles arc apt to soil light coloured silks and wool, and therefore celluloid needles are recommended; or better still, the' steel-lined ones which are note easily obtainable, which are of course unbreakable.
