HANDYMAN’S CORNER

BLACKBOARD\ PAINT “Teacher,”, Hastings, asks for a recipe for blackboard paint. “I wish to renovate an old board,” he writes, “and if successful will make another one.” Various paints for the purpose are on the market, but should you have difficulty in obtaining one, try painting the board with ordinary black paint such as will dry Vith a gios ; then apply a coat of black paint, mixed with turps instead of oil, which will dry a dead black. If you make a board I should advise having it machine planed and surfaced. It will save you endless trouble. POLISH FOR LINOLEUM “Industrious,” Blenheim, writes: — Can you supply a recipe for polishing linoleum'' I find difficulty in securing an efficient polish ready prepared at a popular price. The following is an easily made nnd efficient polish for linoleum. The only ingredients are a pint of methylated spirits and six ounces of shellac, which can lie bought cheaply at any chemist s or most hardware shops. But the shellac into the bottle of spirit and shake it well, taking care to keep away from any flame. Then put the bottle in a warm cupboard for two or three days, shaking it occasionally. At the end of this time the shellac will have completely melted. Unless the linoleum is unusually dirty there is no need to scrub it as this preparation covers successfuly any polish which might be on. Wipe the linoleum with a damp cloth so ns to clean it of dust before applying the polish. When the linoleum is dry, use the polish on a soft cloth.
