11l the course of an interview, the Hon. R. McNab said: “Great as is the Agricultural Department now, it will be vastly greater ten years from now, at the present rate of progress, and will probably require the energies of a Minister doing that and nothing else. I do not know of any department whose development is increasing like this one not even excluding the railways, because business with the latter is simply an addition to volume, while the Agricultural Department adds to its branches.
£ act that the names of the five warships that are to arrive in Wellington from Lyttelton to-day commence with the. same letter of the alphabet. They are the Powerful Pegasus, Pyramus, Prometheus, and Pioneer.
The action of China in defiantly disregarding Japan’s protests against the pioposed Hsin-min-ting-Fakumen railway is causing surprise and indignation in Tokio. Japan made three protests, the last one just prior to China signing an agreement with a British syndicate for the construction of tlie railway.
