board will continue with its policy of selling certain areas and subdividing and leasing the remainder. It is understood that already nearly GOO acres have been leased at rentals of from £1 to £3/10/- an acre per annum, and that certain portions have been sold, The future holdings will be small, but the richness of the land will mean a profitable investment for the holders, and as the town gradually extends the land will be further subdivided into suburban sections. Borough Extension Scheme. An important borough extension scheme that is directly concerned with the development of the Ahuriri flats consists of a proposal to extend Kennedy Road in Napier South in a more or less direct line across the flats to Taradale. At present the road to Puketitiri, Taradale, and Taihape leaves Napier from the south-west at Hyderabad Road and pursues an indirect route toward hills. The new route, as the crowd flies, will serve two purposes. It will shorten the journey to and from Taradale and the well-popu-lated adjacent districts, thus attracting more business and week-end holiday visitors to Napier, and it will open up tlie valuable new land in that area Already there is talk of 92 acres of Harbour Board land being included in Napier South and cut up for purposes of suburban settlement. Another Napier road that may be extended in pursuance of the policy that is actuating- the Kennedy Road extension is Latham Street. Whereas Kennedy Road passes the north-west-ern end of Nelson Park, Latham Street runs parallel beyond the south-western end. Thus, when the" both extensions are accomplished, twin roads will
