Wool Sale Charges
Sir, —j. thank my brother primary producer, who, by the way, is personally unknown to me, for supplying you, at my request, with so complete results ot the sale of his clip at a recent wool sale. Particulars given by him work out as Sale charges, £l/14/9 per bale, and net sale proceeds barely 3d per lb. The sale charges per bale are about a shilling per bale more than those of the Commonwealth quoted in a recent issue of your paper, and no apparent allowance is made in. either case for exchange which represents a bonus of about 10 per cent, to the speculative New Zealand exporter and reduce transport and sale charges in London by about a halfpenny per lb. . . , When the speculator s margin of profit and exchange are taken into consideration it would appear to support my contention that nine times out of ten the grower who exports all his products to London for sale would be the gainer, and if the speculator should happen to overstep the bounds of propriety and pay too much he can make good the year following.-! am, imary pEODUCER . Palmerston North, January 17.
