North Island Event in Fourth Day — ONE COMPETITION ENDED Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, Jan. 6. Though the weather was threatening throughout the major portion of the day, rain did not affect the fourth day of the North Island croquet tourney. . Light showers commenced to fall late this afternoon, but play was not stopped. The B grade handicap singles competition was finalised this afternoon, when Mrs. Sears (Manawatu) beat Mrs. Hatchett (Te Karo), 26—0. The handicap doubles has been advanced to the semi-final stage and Mrs. Harrison and Mrs. Bassett will meet. Mesdames Caldow and Leqs in the final of this competition to-morrow. The following are the detailed results ;— Women’s Championship. First life, second round: Mrs. Boocock beat Mrs. Davidson, 26—7: Mrs. Gambrill beat Mrs. Pitcaithley, 26—16; Mrs. Langford beat Mrs. BenfelJ, 26—0; Mrs. Simpson beat Mrs. Hogan, 26—16; Mrs. Bassett beat Mrs. Brown, 26—4. Second life, first round: Mrs. Pitcaithley beat Mrs. Spring, 26—6; Mrs. Hamilton beat-Mrs. Snowden, 26—21; Mrs. Langford beat Mrs. Davidson, 26—10; Mrs. Radford beat Mrs. Bassett, 26 —16.
