ENJOYING HOLIDAYS

Beaches Prove Popular Pleasure grounds in the Hutt Valley attracted many holiday-makers yesterday. The roads were thronged with motor traffic, and beaches proved popular favourites. Thousands of people chose Day’s Bay for an afternoon’s outing, the park presenting an animated appearance with the multi-coloured costumes . of the pleasureseekers. Picic parties were, spread in various parts of the grounds, and the visitor took full advantage of the facilitien of the park for games. The tennis courts enjoyed a wide popularity. No less patronised was the beach. In all directions young and old could be seen basking in the sand or disporting themselves in the' surf, where huge, gaily-col-oured balls bobbed on the waves. Bathing accessories, such as large nubber ducks, and even inflated inner tubes from motorcars, provided plenty of amusement for the bathers. Attractions at the Petone Carnival drew many to the Esplanade. Some lingered to try their skill at the various sideshows, while others preferred to enjoy the pleasures of the beaches. Always a popular resort, on holidays, Maori Bank at Upper Hutt proved no exception yesterday. The beach and surrounding fields were scattered with picnickers and bathers, and the diving boards attached to the suspension bridge and the bank were in great demand. Another beauty spot further flown the Hutt River, and close to the ’Moonshine Bridge, found a wide patronage.
