The broadbill, which is the aristocrat of the swordfish family, is only caught about ten miles off the New Zealand coast. It is .something in the nature of a reeluse, preferring to cruise round by itself. It is the favourite sporting fish of Zane Grey, and is usually picked out from other sword fish and sharks by its two tins, which appear above the water. .The broadbill is considered a delicacy in New York, where as much as a dollar a lb is paid for it, but it is seldom used for food in New Zealand. Mr. Zane Grey caught one on a previous visit, and sent a large portion to the warship which was in the vicinity, with the recipe how to prepare and cook it. Those who partook of it pronounced it excellent.
