CARTERTON TO-DAY Racing at Clareville ANNUAL MEETING Three Dividends to be Paid (By “The Watcher.”) The Carterton Racing Club will hold ita annual meeting at Clareville to-day. The track is in good order and fast, and an added attraction for the public is the three dividends in fields of nine or over, and two dividends in five-horse races. The fields contain material for plenty of interesting racing. Wellington patrons can reach the course by the 7.00 a.m. train from Lambton, returning after the last race. . The programme is as follows: 12.30 p.m.— NOVICE STAKES, of 55 sovs. Weight 8.8. Atholspear is also likely to run well. Stanchion has shown no form for a long time, but at his best he would be hard to beat. Pahu, Joie de Vai, and Gay Court are all likely lightweights. Although there are only five chances, backers will not find it easy. Cluny is the logical favourite, with ‘ Gay Court the most reliable lightweight. Reports are current that Cluny may not start.' : . , ' : . Beau Irish is a much-improved horse on looks, but he has not been long in work. “Subscriber,” Palmerston North. — Sorry it is not possible to do as you suggest. “Sport,” Otaki. —Letter has been forwarded on as requested.

AUTOPAY’S DAM DEAD Wellington R.C. Secretaryship MARES FOR NIGHTMARCH (By “The Watcher.”) The brood mare Trebelli 11, who threw Autopay to Paper Money, visited that sire again this season, but unfortunately for the joint owners, Messrs. Aitken and Wood, she recently met with such severe injuries that she had to be destroyed. Mr. N. McLean, who has Paper Money standing in North Canterbury, presented another good, mare to the Wellington owners, but their loss all the same is Severe. False Rumours. Rumours are current, and some have been published, concerning the successor to Mr. E. P. Cox in the secretaryship of the Wellington Racing Club. The name of Mr. Godtrey Westenra, of North Canterbury, has been freely connected with these reports. Mr. Westenra telegraphed me yesterday from Cheviot requesting an emphatic denial in these columns.. The telegram concludes: —"I have never even discussed the position with anyone, and have no intention whatever of applying.” Billy Boy. The crack steeplechaser Billy Boy, is exppeted to resume work at Ellerslie this week. He has been spelling since returning from Riccarton in August, and It. W. Lewis reports that he has done exceptionally well during his rest. Two Dividends in Five-horse Races. The Waikato, Racing Club will pay a second Dividend in races where five or mord horses start. Baroscope’s Mission. Unless present intentions are altered, Baroscope and Princess Bede, who carry Mr. E. H. Cucksey’s colours, will both start in the Highweight at Waikato today. Green, who has returned front Australia, will ride Princess Bede, while the trainer, A. Tinker, will be on Baroscope. Te Tawa (brother to Te Kara), in the two-year-old race, is another of Green’s mounts. First Since Sydney. An interesting acceptor for the Taupiri Hack Handicap at Te Rapa is , the three-year-old Mungatoon, who was for some months a ■member of J. T. Jamieson’s team in Sydney, where he won the Maiden Three-year-old Handicap at Menangle Park in August. On that occasion he carried 8.6 and beat a big field over five furlongs in Imin. 2sec.. and, in view of the fact that he shaped well when he finished second to Gaine Carrington at Te Aroha last season, his reappearance will be awaited with interest. Lady Quex. According to reports from Taranaki, Lady Quex is rapidly approaching her best form, and she will be a sprint winner again soon. She has an engagement in the Feilding Stakes, but she has been nominated also for Takapuna. It will be possible to do both these meetings this year. Silver Ring. Silver Ring is at present taking things easily in a paddock at his stables, but he is being exercised regularly, and if he goes on all right will be taken th Auckland for the Christmas meeting. Ellis iii the South. . L. J.' Ellis has gone to the Winton meeting and will not be riding at Carterton to-day. \ Should Pay Her Way. . . Splutter, the three-year-old filly by Tea Tray from Impediment, who was tiken to Australia by the Hawera trainer, J. Fryer, has been leased to Mr. D. H. McTjeod. owner of Araunah, who Is now at Mentone. Gustavo in Again. Gustavo has made his reappearance at Riccarton, looking big and hearty. His training is being supervised by W. McDonald. »

Among the 15 mares who to date have been booked to Nightmarch is Sailor’s Hope, the dam of Fast Passage and Waterline. This mating is interesting, for Pilgrim's Progress occurs in the same remove in the lines of this mare and of Entreaty (dam of Phar Lap). The other consorts of the dual Cup winner are Satisfy (full-sister to Battle Colours), the English-bred Torquato (dam of Gauntlet), Peho, by Winkie. Weeplete (dam of Royal Amphora), Matty Carling, by Kilbroney, a Gay Lad mare, a sister to Adelphi, Waterlow, Jubilant (half-sister to Palestrina and Juniper), Pride (sister to Jaloux), Rosenur, by Kilboy, Solrose, by Soiferino, Cheloma (dam of Prince Ferouz, Nincompoop, and Appeal), and Arrowlet, full-sister to Minerval.
