N.SW. Relief Allocation Sydney, Nov. 17. The Minister of Labour, Mr. J. Dunningham, announced that the Unemployment Relief Council had allocated £860,000 > for relief work. This will provide Christmas money for many mon at present out of work. RELIEF IN CANADA Departmental Estimate Ottawa, Nov. 16. So far as the Department of Labour may estimate it, there are 800,000 men, women and children receiving relief at the present time, Mr. W. A. Gordon, Minister of Immigration, told the House of Commons to-day. Of this total it was estimated that 144,000 had not worked very steadily since 1919. Another 100,000 were what were known as “transients,” 50 per cent, of whom were recent arrivals in Canada.
