AN ANCIENT CHARTER.

The Guild, Fraternity, or Brotherhood of the most Glorious and Undividahle Trinity and of St- Clement, received its charter from King Henry VIII. on May 20, lull. That it should be founded at Deptford was only right, as there was the King’s Naval Storehouse. Such was the beginning of Trinity House, which now controls 150 lighthouses and ligntships, and which, also licenses pilots. On Trinity Monday it is the custom lor the brethren to walk in procession to the Church - of- St. Olave. Hart Street, for their annual service. In 1851, however, the procession was! to the Trinity Almshouses, Deptford, and was led by the Duke of Wellington, who was then master. On these occasions it was the iron Duke’s custom to give bouquets t the women present, and to distribute sponge cakes to the children. '
