TRADE WITH EAST
Restrictions Not Placed on Exports MINISTER’S ASSURANCE No restrictions are being placed on shipments of primary produce to the East, according to a statement made by the Minister of Inddstries and Com merce, Hon. R. Masters, in a letter to Mr. R. McKeen, M.P. for Wellington South. “So far as fruit is concerned it is merely necessary to make application to the Fruit Control Board for permission to ship to the East,” wrote the Minister, “and permission is Invariably granted. There have been, in fact, no instances on the part of the board of refusal of permission to ship. Exporters make their own arrangements as regards actual shipments to the East. An exception to this occurs in the case of shipments from Otago, which district has not been brought under the board’s sphere of control. In this case permission to ship is not necessary. “So far as meat and dairy produce are concerned, the relative boards exercise control only over shipments by the Conference lines, that is to say, shipments to the United Kingdom, the Continent of Europe, and America, Exporters are free to ship to the East if they wish, and the prior permission of the board is not required. That being so, there have been no instances of permission to the East being refused. “The Honey Export Control Board also states that it places no restrictions on shipments to tlie East, and consequently there have been no instances where permission to private individuals or companies to ship to the East has been refused.”
