Masterton, Nov. 13. ' Cricketers in the Wairarapa were fay? oured with ideal spring weather for thur matches on Saturday afternoon. In tne senior competition, United scored a twopoint win. over Old Boys, and Lansdowne defeated High School by 33 runs on the first innings., The best individual score was a' 73 by a High School boy, B. Welch. (United v. ; Old Boys. . Having knocked up 39(1 runs for seven wickets the previous Saturday, United permitted Old Boys to go to the’ c on the resumption of play. The latter scored 205, the most generous contributorsrto this total being Watts 23, Wusoii 55, ilornabrook 4<, and Montgomeiy 00. Old Boys followed on, and did not no so well in the second innings, t.ie first six wickets for fo io. vvnn the time limit in sight patent to play safe and prevent a three-point win being scored against them. ,Hoi y was confident, however, and in spite of the bad light, sent away five nice foul’ B the last stages of the game. He and Denby 30. and Jenkins only two-figure scores. F. Hoar was bowling a good length, and took five tickets for 40 runs) in the fi rst innings an 1 three for 27 in the second. Renner took two for 15 in the. first, while Blamires •took two for 40 in the first and one-lor 19 in-the second, bpackman took two for 20 in the second.
Lansdowne v. High School. The position was, Lansdowne 236 and High School one for 16, when High &*bool recommenced batting. The schoolboys were unfortunate in losing Massey Lb.w. before he had reach,ed double figures, but Welch steadied theih, knocking up an excellent 74, and the innings! closed at 203. Clarke 30, Mexted 25, and Chesterman 32 were the only other prominent bahmen. Faulknor took three High School wickets for 12, and Sherratt three for 52. Lansdowne opened strongly in the second innings, and. at stumps were 1-0 for four. They thus) won the match on the first innings by 236 runs to 200.
