WOMEN’S DIVISION
N.Z. Farmers’ Union The Mauriceville-lhuraua branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was recently visited by Mrs. C. C. Jackson, Dominion president, who spoke on the work of the organisation. Mrs. Jackson explained the purpose of the community chest fund, and also spoke of the splendid work done by branches in helping necessitous cases in the country. Matapu. a recently-formed branch, was addressed by Miss Corrigan, of Hawera, at the last meeting, the subject being “The Deague of Nations.’’ A. book club and a plant exchange have been started by this branch, and it is intended at next meeting to have a demonstration on skin tanning, and mocassin makingMidhirst branch had a large attendance of members at the last monthly meeting, Mrs. Laird, branch president, being in the chair. Arrangements were made for the first birthday party, for the stall at the forthcoming Stratford show, and for the Christmas tree for the members’ children. Two interesting demonstrations were given, one on how to make seagrass stools, and the other on the making of floor rugs from sugarbags. Sliereden branch recently purchased a spinning wheel, and Mrs. MacKinnon demonstrated spinning at the last branch meeting. A beautiful collection of baby clothes was sent into St. Mary’s Home. Napier. The new branch at Brixton is now organised, and working very well. A most successful dance has been held, despite bud weather and counter attractions.
The Arapohue-Mititai branch made a collection of clothes at the lust meeting, and these were distributed to deserving cases In the district. The annual social has been arranged for tills month, in order to raise funds for the community chest. and members have brought in a splendid assortment of articles for sale the same evening.
New Plymouth branch held an enjoyable garden party at the home of the president. Mrs. Fretiiey. Arrangements have been made by this branch for members to visit country patients in hospital, and several members offered to take patients Into their homes for a few days prior to leaving for a long journey into the country.
