L. Fellingham’s Success SUBURBS CLUB EVENTS The Suburbs Defence Rifle Club completed its third shoot in ’ the championship series at Trcntham on Saturday with a match over 300 and 500 yards. It was intended to hold the match on the Seddon Range oven 800 and 900 yards, but owing to targets not being available a change of programme had to be effected. Weather conditions were good and some excellent shooting was witnessed. At 300 yards Dep.-Pres. Goodall with a 47 was easily first, C. ’Milroy (45), H. Taylor (44) and W. Prictor (44) occupying the next three places. At 500 yards Leslie Fellingham put up a sterling performance and scored 48. Commencing with six bulls, he was well on the way toward a possible when an imperceptible change of wind caught him for two inners with his seventh and eighth shots. His last two shots were again in the centre. DepPres. Goodall (47) and S. F. McLean (46) also shot with distinction. Next Saturday’s shpot will be over ranges of 500 and 600 yards.

Karori Practice Firing. A practice shoot over the 300 and 500 yards ranges was fired by the Karori Defence Rifle Club. President H. 'l. Marshall was in charge. T. H. R. Boon put on a fine shoot at 300 yards, returning a 48 and taking first place at this range. At 500 yards P. B. Goldfinch and F,. Chjng tied for the honour. with 47 each. Saturday appeared to be another “Goldfinch” day, senior winning the scratch weekly trophy with “standard” at both ranges, and junior winning the handicap weekly trophy. Five of the handicap men reached the standard and tied for the trophy, which went to Goldfinch, jun., he having the highest score off the gun. The scores were as follow (standards 46, 47, 93): —

The Old Navals Defence Rifle Club continued its programme, shooting for the championship and first series. The annual match with the Upper Hutt Rifle Club for the Stone Shield was very closely contested, the Old Navals just getting home by four points. The feature of the match was the brilliant shooting of President W. Mcßain and Dep.Pres. B. Dunn, who scored 49 and 47 respectively at 300 yards, and at 500 yards both riflemen were equal with a good 47 each. The two next highest scorers at 300 yards were H. Whiteman, Upper Hutt (46), and F. E. Franklyn, Old Navals (45). At 500 yards A. Scholes, Upper Hutt, and J. Atkins, Old Navals, who is a. new member to outside shooting, both put on 48 each. There were also quite a number of 47’s. Refreshments were provided by the Upper Hutt Rifle Club, which added to a very enjoyable afternoon. Mr. Stone was also present at the presentation, of his shield. President W. Mcßain, who shot bril-, liantly over both ranges, also topped the club scores with 96, and Riflemen F. Monk and F. E. Franklyn were second with 91 each. Rifleman J. Atkins was warmly congratulated after getting his 48 at 500 yards; his score ran 3555555 555—48. Scores are as follow: — 300 500

708 Next Saturday the Old Navals club will fire over ranges 500 and 600 yards. Dunn Betters Standard. The Upper Hutt Defence Rifle Club continued its championship matches on Saturday over ranges of 300 and 500 yards. Some excellent individual scores were put on at both ranges. At 300 yards Dep.-Pres. B. Dunn was top scorer with 47, two points above the club standard for this distance. He was closely followed by H. Whiteman (46) and Pres. L, Ridgway and A. Scholes with 45 each.- At 500 yards three members. A. Scholes (48), Dep.-Pres. B. Dunn (47) and D. Purvis (47), bettered the club standard of 46. With the excellent total of 94 Dep.Pres. B. Dunn secured the leg-in for a trophy. Details of scores are:—

Next Saturday the club will fire the third shoot of the first series over ranges of 500 and 600 yards.
