CRICKET SEASON
Extra Matches Proposed
McGIRR BENEFIT GAME
If the proposals of the Wellington Cricket Association are carried out, two more important matches will be played at the Basin Reserve this season. ~ , The management committee decided at last night’s meeting to suggest to the minor associations that the annual Town v. Country match should be played in Wellington on December 11 and 15. Mr. A. M. Ongley, of Palmerston North, was reappointed as sole selector of the country team. It was decided to write to the Auckland association asking how many of their representative players would be available to take part in an H. M. McGirr benefit match at Wellington after the Auckland team had concluded its southern tour this season. The chairman, Mr. P. B. Broad, said that if Auckland could supply six or seven players the team might be made up with Canterbury players, including W. E. Merritt. Such a match against tbo Wellington representatives would prove a good. draw.
