Big Event on the Basin VARIED DEMONSTRATIONS Fifteen hundred boys, representing the Boy Scouts, Boys’ Institute, Y.M.C.A., and Boys’ Brigade, will parade at the Basin Reserve on Saturday, November 12. His Excellency the GovernorGeneral, Lord. Bledisloe, will be in attendance, and a most elaborate programme of events has been arranged. Following the opening ceremonies, demonstrations by the boys will include gymnastics, games, chariot and other races, model camps, first aid and earthquake emergency demonstrations, ceremonial marches, jungle dances, signalling, woodworking, novelty events. A feature of the programme will be a reproduction of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi by a group of Maori boys from Otakl. The Boys’ Institute and Boys’ Brigade bands will be in attendance, and the entire programme should provide an effective demonstration of what a large number of Wellington boys are doing in their leisure hours, and of the pursuits they are following in the development of good citizenship. In the event of inclement weather the demonstration will be transferred to the Winter Show buildings. It is reported that arrangements are well in hand for the boys’ hobbies demonstration and competition, to take place in the Town Hall on November 16, 17 and 18. The object of this competition is stated to be that of stimulating the creative activity of boys. All boys in Wellington district are invited to submit entries in the various sections, including meccano, mechanical models, aeroplane models, radio, woodwork, photographic, art, and general educational. In addition to the hobbies, it is reported that an excellent supporting programme will be arranged for each night of the display. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, has intimated his intention of being present and opening the exhibition. Entries will close on Tuesday, November 1. Messrs. Haughton and Parton have been appointed a. special committee to negotiate the arrangements in connection with the forthcoming street day, to be held on behalf of the combined boys’ organisations.
