Women’s Tournament PLAY AT MIRAMAR Semi-finals This Morning Much pleasanter weather prevailed for the second day of the Miramar Ladies’ Golf Club’s open tournament, when some surprises took place in the first and second round of the championship competition. The result of the championship play was that Mrs. Blain (Wellington), Miss Gambrill (Miramar), Mrs. Partridge (Miramar), and Mrs. Ferguson (Auckland) were left in to fight out the semi-finals this morning and the final this afternoon. In the second round, Mrs. Wilson went out iu 43 to Mrs. Blain’s 44, which enabled the Miramar player to turn for home 1 up. They halved the tenth in 5, but Mrs. Blain turned on a birdie 4 at the eleventh (353 yards), which squared the match. The short twelfth was halved in 3, but Mrs. Blain again turned on a birdie 4 at the thirteenth (380 yards), ■which placed her 1 up. They halved the fourteenth in 4, but Mrs. Blain then played sterling golf to take the fifteenth (270 yards) in 4, and the sixteenth (270 yards) in 4, to take a match by 3 and 2. Mrs. Blain was one under bogey for the seven holes played on the run home. Mrs. Ferguson (Auckland), who won her way into the semi-final of the Wanganui open championship last week, again showed that she is a player of merit by beating Miss McClure by 4 and 2 in the first round yesterday, and accounting for Mrs. Farr in the second round by 4 and 3. The Middlemore player played very steadily throughout the day, doing round about S 3 both morning and afternoon. Back to Form. Miss Gambrill this season has regained her best form, and is hitting a great ball off the tees. Miss Gambrill then came on to her best form, and, squaring the match at the eighteenth, won a great fight by 1 up at the nineteenth. Miss Gambrill then went on in the afternoon to beat Mrs. Treadwell (Hutt) in the second round by 3 and 2.
