OBITUARY
Mrs. Anthony Wall Through the death of Mrs. Anthony Wall, that took place at the Bowen Street Hospital on Sunday, Porirua loses one of its oldest inhabitants. With her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. T. Stace, of Pahautanui, Mrs. Wall arrived in Wellington from Tasmania in 1853. After a few months in this city the family removed to Pahautanui, where they engaged in farming pursuits. The Wall family at this time (1853) also took up their abode on the Porirua-Paremata road, the family still retaining their original holding in the locality, and where the late Mrs. Wall has spent 67 years of her life. The late Mrs. Wall was married at Porirua in 1865, and had many anecdotes to relate regarding the hardships of the early pioneers who in those days did not have the privileges enjoyed by country residents to-day. Mrs. Wall was always known for her hospitality and kindness to wayfarers in the early days, their old home on the road being a haven of rest with travellers. Mr. Wall predeceased his wife in 1901. Mrs. Wall is survived by five sons—Dr. Wall (Wanganui), Mr. Frank Wall (Martinborough), Mr. Reg. Wall (Pukerua Bay), Mr. Percy Wall (Waipukurau), and Mr. Leonard Wall (Palmerston North). She also leaves two daughters, Mrs. W. Hand-Newtown (Christchurch), and Mrs. Basil Taylor (Christchurch). The funeral took place yesterday afternoon at the Porirua cemetery, the Rev. A. C. Swainson, of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Plimmerton, officiating at the graveside, while a service was held at St. Anne’s ■ Church, Porirua, before the cortege left for the cemetery. The pall-bearers were the departed lady’s five sons and Mr. James Wall, a cousin.
