AGAINST AIRCRAFT

Warships’ Gunnery Practice VOYAGE DOWN COAST After they left Auckland the two warships, Diomede and Dunedin, engaged in anti-aircraft exercises in the Hauraki Gulf. The firing was carried out in conjunction with the Fairy lIIF seaplane from the Hobsonville base. Flying at 8000 ft., the aircraft towed the drogue target used in anti-aircraft firing across the ships’ course, alternately ahead and astern of the warships. Both.vessels fired each time at the target in quick succession. At the conclusion of the practice, which lasted for 40 minutes, the seaplane returned to the base. The Diomede continued her voyage to Wellington and the Dunedin left for Napier.
