Kick at Goal After Try N.Z. UNION RULING Tbe management committee of tbe New Zealand Rugby Union, at a washing-up meeting for the 1932 season last night, gave a ruling that the kick at goal, after a try has been scored, must bo taken. Mr. S. S. Dean presided, and there were also present: Messrs. H. S. Leith, A. C. Kitto, J. G. Roache, F. Glasgow. 12. S. Hylton, W. G. Wallace, Kingi Tabiwi, and A. E. Neilson, secretary. Tbe Canterbury Referees’ Association wrote, asking that ,a ruling should be obtained from the International Rugby Board as to whether it is compulsory to take a kick at goal after a try has been scored. It was decided to reply that Rule 25, which states that after a try has been scored the ball must be brought into the field of play, and placed on the ground, covered the position. A ruling by tbe New Zealand .Referees’ Association was read to tbe effect that it was compulsory to take a kick at goal after a try has been scored. Late Mr. B. P. Palmer. The Council of the New Zealand Rugby Football League wrote, expressing its regret at the passing of the 1932 All Black, the late B. P. Palmer, of Auckland. “Mr. Palmer during his career as a footballer,” the letter stated, ‘‘proved himself a credit to the Rugby fraternity and to New Zealand, and his passing leaves a gap that will be hard to fill. The late gentleman’s personality endeared him to all with whom he came in contact, and not only the New Zealand Rugby world, but all other codes feel the less of such a fine sportsman.” Letters of condolence were also received from Mr. R. C. Cooney, of Sydney, and the Manly District Rugby Club, Sydney. Permission was granted to tbe Auckland Union to play a benefit match to raise money for support of tbe mother of the late Mr. Palmer, who was entirely dependent on him. Tbe appeal of the Puuatau Maori Football Club was uphold against a decision of tbe Horowbenua Rugby Union in dismissing a protest by the club on the ground that tbe Otnki Club played L. Wright, who had not fulfilled the residential qualification. Wright played for the South Island Maoris at Palmerston North on July 9. and played for Otaki in a club contest without fulfilling the requisite residential qualification, fourteen clear days. Other Business. It was decided to pay £2l/10/- to the North Auckland Union, toward the expenses incurred during the visit of the Maori team to North Auckland. The following reinstatements of players were approved:—O. O. Riley, Napier; G. W. M. Riddell. Wellington. It was agreed to make a further advance of £4OO on first mortgage to the South Canterbury Union.
