NEVER TOO OLD

Soprano Trained at 79 A concert singer who took her first lesson iu voice production when she was 79 years old, and now, at the age of 80, possesses the soprano voice of a girl of 18, has made an appearance at Cwmdare, Wales. She is Mrs. E. Parfitt, of Porthcawl, who as a concert artist is probably unique. Tall, erect, with silver hair and rosy cheeks, Mrs. Parfitt looks only half her age. She sang several soprano songs with ease and charm. She stated that she had sung in choirs all her life, but did not decide to be a soloist until she was 70. Mr. Dan Price, senior professor of singing at the Royal College of Music, said: “Mrs. Parfitt astonishes me by the wonderful purity of her voice and sustaining power. I have never in my long experience come across so remarkable a case. One would think she was a young woman not quite -40, instead of an elderly lady of 80.”
