TWOPENCE A PEEP
Clergyman in Barrel MONEY FOR DEFENCE FUND (Rec. September 6, 11.20 p.m.) London, September 6. Ten thousand people yesterday paid twopence each for a peep at the Rev. Harold Davidson, ex-Rector of Stiffkey, sitting in a sealed barrel at Blackpool
in au open-air exhibition, says the “Chronicle.” A local girl, Barbara Cockayne, is attempting a ten days’ fast in an adjoining barrel. “I am not going to fast,” said Mr. Davidson. “I need £lOOO for my defence fund, and I must raise the money somehow. My feelings rebel against this, but I am going through with it.” He has contracted for a big sura to sit in the barrel for ten days. He enters it each morning and stays there, with the exception of breaks for luncheon and tea, until late in the evening. ' ,
