BUTTER EXPORT
Record Shipments to Britain DECREASE IN CHEESE A new record was established for dairy ■produce exports during the twelve months of the 1931-32 season, ended July 31. the total shipments of butter and cheese being 182,026 tons, as compared with 179,087 tons for the 1930-31 period. Butter exports at 98,232 tons were a new record, showing an increase of 5007 tons over the shipments for 1930-31, but cheese shipments at 83,794 tons showed a decrease of 2068 tons. The net increase in butter and cheese shipments for the twelve months was 2939 tons. The Dairy Board’s return for the twelve months gives the following com-
The twelve months’ shipments of butter to London decreased by 1388 tons, but, on the other hand, shipments to West of Britain ports totalling 17,893 tons, as against 9885 tons for 1930-31, show an increase of 8008 tons, or over 81 per cent. The small shipments to other destinations show clearly that Britain is the Dominion’s main customer for butter, as for cheese. The figures indicate the loss of the Canadian market for butter. The total shipments to destinations other than Britain during the 1931-32 season were only 1248 tons, compared with 2861 tons in 1930-31. The Dominion’s exports of butter to Britain during the twelve months ended July 31 were over 98.70 per cent, of the total shipments. The shipments of cheese during the twelve months compare as follow: —
Practically the whole of the Dominion’s cheese, as usual, went to Britain. London took 6500 tons less, but shipments to West of Britain ports increased by 4433 tons to 17,755, tons. Australia’s Big Increase. Shipments of butter from Australia to Britain during the twelve months ended July 31 totalled 83,923 tons (only 14,309 tons less than those from New Zealand), as against 67.247 tons for 1930-31, an increase of 16,676 tons, or over 24.79 per cent. Shipments of butter from the Argentine Republic for the .twelve months were 16,430 tons, ns against 19,156 tons, a decrease of 2726 tons. NEW SEASON’S SHIPMENTS Latest Space Allotments , Including several ships now completing loading, the Dairy Board’s latest list of shipping space allotments provides for 16 vessels to lift 672,400 boxes of butter and 135000 crates of cheese between now and October 22. These shipments will clear practically all gradings of dairy produce for August and September. The list of ships, with their respective allotments, and approximate sailing dates from New Zealand, and arrival in Britain, is as follows: —
