1200 VOICES AT A SERVICE. Fifty choirs of the Southwark diocese lately took part in the festival service of the local Diocesan Choral Association, representing a body of 1200 voices. The conductor did not seem to have the slightest difficulty in securing unanimity of attack and colour, and the performance was extremely impressive, especially when after the second lesson the choirs sang the consoling melody of Stanford’s anthem, “The Lord is My Shepherd.” Tchaikovsky’s richly-eolpured “Hymn to the Trinity” was another fine piece of music, in which the massive tone of the singers told with great effect.

Mr. Henry Jester, aged 87, the oldest tradesman at Nuneaton, Warwickshire, has presented a mace of solid silver to the borough council.
