LOAN CONVERSION
Huge British Operation ‘VERY GREAT SUCCESS’ Definite Figures Soon (Rec. August 14, 5.5 p-m.) Official Wireless Kugby, August 13. A Treasury announcement as to the progress of the War Loan conversion operation achieved up to the end of the bonus month is expected early next week. Much progress has now been made with the great volume of mail received in the last few days of July and some days afterwards. The delayed post, consisting mainly of letters from abroad, was unexpectedly large. There are indications that before July 31 £l7OO million of 5 per cent, war stock was converted to 31 per cent, stock, and that the final approximate amount will show a considerably higher figure. The total amount of War Loan outstanding was £2087 million. City circles do not doubt that the Treasury will be able to announce a very great success and anticipate that apart from the benefits it will confer on the financial situation, the operation will encourage countries with conversion schemes in prospect.'
