Bonnet and Matinee Coat Here is a really good pattern of a bonnet and coat for your small babe. Try it. BonnetMaterials. —lox. KINGFISHER lustre wool, 3-ply white and a small quantity of pink. Two No. 8 knitting needles, IJyds. ribbon. Measurement.—Width all round btim, 121 n. ’ Work at a tension to produce 7 atitchea to the inch, measured over the plain, smooth fabric. Using the white wool, cast on 68 stitches. Ist row.—K. 1. purl to the last stitch, K. 1. Proceed as follows: — •‘lst row—K. 1, * wl. fwd., K. 2 tog., repeat from * to the last stitch, K. 1. 2nd and alternate rows.—K. I, puri to the last stitch, K. 1. 3rd row.—K. 3, * wl. fwd., K. 2 tog., K. 4, repeat from ♦ to the last 5 stitches, wl. fwd., K. 2 tog., K. 3. sth row.—Like the 3rd row. 7th row. —Like the Ist row. Bth row.—K. 1, purl to the last stitch, K. 1 **. Proceed as fellows:— Ist row.—Knit plain. 2nd row.—K. 1. purl to the last stitch, K. 1. Repeat these two rows for li inches, ending with a purl row. In the next row * K. 3, increase once in the next stitch, repeat from * Ove times, K. 20 ** increase once in the next stitch, K. 3, repeat from ** five times. Proceed as follows:— Ist row.—Knit plain, 2nd row.—K. 1, purl to the last stitch, K. 1. Repeat these two rows for 3 Inches, ending. with a purl row. K. 2 tog., repeat from • to the end of the row. Sth row.—* K. 6, K. 2 tog., repeat from • to the ond of the row.
7th row.—* K. 6, K. 2 tog., repeat from * to the end of the row. 9th row.—* K. 4, K. 2 tog., Repeat from • to the end of the row. * jlth row.—* K. 3, K. 2 tog., repeat, from • to the end of the row. 13th row.—* K. 2, K. 2 tog., repeat from • to the eiid of the row. 15th row.—* K. 1, K- 2 tog., repeat from • to the end of the row. Break off the Wool and run through the remaining stitches, draw up and fasten off securely. Sew up the seam as far as the shapings. Using the plpk wool, work 1 row d.c. evenly round the edge. Continue in plain, smooth fabric (still keeping a border of 8 stitches in Moss pattern at the front edge) until the work measures 81 inches from the commencement, ending with a plain knitted row. Cast off 3 stltoheS at the beginning of the next row. Decrease once at the end of needle in the next and every alternate row until 29 stitches remain. Continue without, shaping until the wofk measures 101 inches from (he commencement} ending with a purl tow. Proceed as follows:— • Ist row.—K. 1, (Wl. fwd:, K. 2 tog.) six times, knit plain to the en<j of the row. 2nd row.—K. 1, purl to the last stiteli, K. 1. 3rd row. —Cast off 10 stjtches, K. 1, wl, fwd., K. 2 tog., knit plain to the end of Hie row, 4tii row—K. 1. purl to the last stiteli, K. 1. sth row—K. 1, wl. fwd., K. 2 tog., knit plain to the end of the row. Repeat the 4th and Sth rows once. Cast off. . The Left Front—Cast on 55 stitches. Work S rows in Moss pattern. Continue to correspond with the Right Front until the work measures 10* Inches from commenceriieiit, ending with a purl row. Proceed as follows:— Ist row.—K. 17. (Wl. fwd., K. 2 tog.) six times. 2nd row—Cast off 10 Btitches, purl to the last stitch, K. 1. 3rd row.—K. 17. wl. fwd.. K. 2 tog. 4111 row.—K. 1. purl to the last stiteb, K. 1. Repeat the 3rd and 4tb rows once, then tlie 3rd row once. Cast off. The Sleeves. —Cast on 30 stitches. Work- in- plain, smooth fabric, casting on 3. stitches at the end of every row until there arc 48 Btitches on the needle. Decrease once at each end of tho needle in the Otla and every following 10th row until 42 stitches remain. Continue without shap Ing until the work measures 4J inches from the commencement, ending with a purl row. Ip the next row (K. 2.t0g., K. 5) five times, K. 2 tog.. K. 3. K. 2 tog. Work 2 inches in Moss pattern. Cast off, Work another sleeve in the same manner. To Make Up the Coat.—With a damp cloth and hot iron press carefully. Sew up the side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Sow In the sleeves, placing seam to seam. Thread ribbon through the holes at the neck and sCw ribboa at the waist.
