WELLINGTON PRESBYTERY

Response to Pound Day Appeal The Presbytery of Wellington met on Tuesday last, the Moderator, the Rev. A. A. Armstrong, presiding. Reference was made to the passing of Mr. A. R. Stone, a member of the Orphanage Committee; Mr. John Priestley, Dominion secretary of the Sudan United Mission: and Mr. J..G. McPherson, an elder of St. James’s Church. Sympathy with -the-relatives was expressed, the memtiers standing. The Rev. Dr. Gibb reported that'the recent “pound day” appeal on behalf of the orphanages had met with a fine response from. congregations.,. Some 2500 parcels had been received. Presbytery was waited upon by representatives of the Youth for Youth Campaign Committee,' who • reported progress, indicating that arrangements were well in band. It was intimated.that in connection with the centenary of “The Seven Men of Preston,” a great temperance demonstration of a united charatcer was being arranged for, to be held in the Town Hall on October 18. In view of the Youth for Youth campaign, the intensive period of which will cover the greater part of the month of September, it was resolved that the next ordinary meeting of Presbytery be held on October 11.
