FAILURE TO AGREE
Coal Companies and Miners OUTCOME OF CONFERENCE No statement has been issued on behalf of either the West Coast coal owners or the miners since the close of a conference held in Wellington on Wednesday in the hope of reaching a settlement bf the present Industrial dispute. It is understood that a deadlock was reached, and that no agreement was made. “We have nothing to say,” said Mr. T. O. Bishop, secretary of the Coal Owners’ Association, when asked yesterday if any progress had been made. He declined to comment on any aspect of the conference. The meeting on Wednesday was the outcome of a request made to the owners on behalf of the West Coast unions who previously had rejected the employers’ proposals for a new agreement. The companies represented at the conference were the Westport Coal Company, the Westport-Stockton Company, Brunner Collieries, Ltd., and the Grev Valley Coal Company.
