LIBRARY EXTENSION
Branch for Wadestown IMPROVED FINANCES The granting of authority for the establishment of a branch library ar the Wadestown Hall, subject to'the expenditure not exceeding £l5O daring the current financial year, was a recommendation of the Library Committee to the City Council last evening. Councillor T. Forsyth raised the question as to whether they should consider the spending of any further money this
year on library extension in view of the economic position. Councillor W. J. Gaudin said that there was an improvement in the library returns, and as the money likely to be received this year was a little tooie than was thought, it was only right that the money should be spent to meet the needs of the reading public, which reallv paid for it. The Mayor thought that as the receipts were turning out better than were anticipated there was no harm In allowing this vote to go forward. There was no doubt that there were mure people reading than ever, and if they did not go to the city libraries they would go off io private libraries. Councillor J. Burns commented on the hard work put in by the Wadestown people to help themselves. They should be assisted in the matter of a library. The recommendation was agreed to.
