DOG LICENSES Increased Fees Suggested Palmerston North, August 11. Support for a proposal to amend the Dog Registration Act so that the fees paid in respect of- sporting dogs should be increased from 10/- to £1 or £2, was requested in a letter received at yesterday’s meeting of the Pohangina County Council from the Kairanga County Council. The letter pointed out that the Kairanga County Council had received numerous, complaints of sheep -being worried by sporting dogs. If the owners had to pay a higher fee for the registration of their dogs, it would have the effect of considerably reducing the number of stray dogs. “The country is full of worthless dogs, and the owners should be made to pay for them,” said Mr. Pratt.
