FARMERS’ UNION
New Branch Formed / ■ ■■■■—— SOUTHERN HAWKE’S BAY I Dominion Special Service. Dannevirke, August 11. At a well-attended meeting of farmers at Ti Tree last night it was decided to form a branch of the Farmers’ Union, to embrace the Weber, Akitio, Ilerbertville, Ti Tree and Wimbledon districts. The possibility of the formation of a branch of the Women’s Division of the Union was also discussed and the opinion was expressed that a branch would be formed in the near future. Mr. J. G. Doyle, a vice-president of the Southern Hawke’s Bay executive, and Mr. 11. S. M. Quigley, provincial secretary, were present at the meeting. Mr. Quigley outlined the functions of the Farmers’ Union and said the union desired to have live branches functioning in the districts of Southern Hawke’s Bay. Mr. A. C. Ward was elected chairman of the new branch, and Mr. D. L. Crooks secretary. Messrs. S. Speedy, C. Thom. F. McPhail, J. Heisima, W. Franklin. J. Hales, .L. G. Cross, junr., were elected as an executive committee.
