EXODUS OF WORKERS
Masterton Relief Meeting VISITORS NOT WANTED Dominion Special Service. Masterton, August IL Two officials of the Unemployed Workers’ Movement visited Masterton yesterday, but received an unsympathetic reception from the local relief workers, there being a general exodus from the hall when the visitors attempted to address a meeting last night. Prior to the meeting a number of pamphlets were distributed headed “U.W.M. Constitution and Policy.” The constitution was stated to have been adopted at a conference held at Wellington on March 25 of this year. The officials apparently came to Masterton with the object of forming a local committee, but they bad not proceeded very far with their remarks when there was a general exodus from the hall. It is stated that no sympathy whatever was shown for the aims propounded by the strangers. Mr. H. Daley, secretary of the Maeterton branch of the relief workers’ section of the Labour movement, stated this morning that his organisation had no connection in any Way with the Unemployed Workers’ Movement or the Communist Party. He added that he had handed a copy of the pamphlet distributed to the Masterton police.
