OBITUARY
Mrs. Caroline Warren Mrs.' Caroline Warren, formerly a well-known resident of Wellington, died in Auckland on Thursday at the age of 97 years Mrs. Warren was the relict of Sergeant-Major William Warren, of the 65th Regiment, who remained attached to the New Zealand Forces after the British regiments returned to England. For many years Mrs. Warren was an adherent of the Taranaki Street Wesleyan Methodist Church, and was known for her charity. Lady Richardson, wife of Major-General Sir George Richardson, K.C.M.G., of Auckland, is a daughter. Mr. A. R. Stone Mr. A. R. Stone, public accountant and secretary for the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, died suddenly of heart failure in his office, Panama Street, at 11 a.m. yesterday. The late Mr. Stone, who was 58 years of age, was born at Cobden, Greymouth, and at 14 years of age became a cadet in the Public Works Department. Later he was transferred to Wellington, and during the construction of the Main, Trunk .railway through the Noftji Island was one of the paymasters for the department. Transferred to Auckland, he studied and qualified as an accountant in the Auckland University. He was then transferred to the Marine Department, and was transferred to the Department of Agriculture, where he rose to be the chief accountant. He served two years with the New Zealand forces in France during the war. Mr. Stone retired from the service on superannuation in 1926. Since then he had practised in Wellington as a public accountant. The late Mr. Stone was a keen horticulturalist, and only last year added to his duties in that, regard by succeeding Mr. J. G. MacKenzie as secretary of the Wellington Horticultural Society, and recently undertook the duties of secretary to the general executive of the State Garden Allotment Scheme. Mr. Stone was president of the Wadestown Progressive Association, and was a member of the Wadestown Men’s Society. He was an office-bearer in the Wadestown Presbyterian Church and was treasurer of the Presbyterian Orphanages and Social Service organisation. Mr. Stone had been suffering from heart trouble for the past twelve months. He leaves bls wife and three [ young sons.
