ON A RAINY DAY

Sitting by the fireside, On a rainy day; Knitting Peggy squares, To send to 2YA. By "Rosy Checks,” aged 12 years, Otaki.

FROM KIWI’S GLORY BOX While I was thinking about Rain this week, making this page for you to-day, I decided, as some of our artists did too, that the nicest .thing about a rainy day was that it gives us time for all sorts of indoors and round-the-fire fun. So I had a long rummage in my Glory Box and found a special batch of all sorts of things to make and do on rainy idays.-vKlwL' ’ A TONGUE TWISTER Suppose a shoeblack found another shoeblack blacking black boots with his blacking brush and told ,the shoeblack that'.that blacking brush for blacking 'blick' boots belonged to him, would. the .shoeblack blacking black boots with the other shoeblack’s black;ing brush give up blacking the black boots and-hand back the blacking brush for blacking black boots to the shoeblack who owned it, or continue blacking black boots with the blacking brush for black boots that was not his? : i ' ' CARAMEL TOFFEE I The ingredients necessary to this recipe are one tin of condensed milk, one teacupful of sugar, two tablespoons of syrup,; ane Jib. of butter. Put the sugar, syrup, and butter into a saucepan on the fire, and let them boil together for three minutes. Draw the saucepan aside and add the condensed milk. Replace it on the fire and lot it boil for 15 or 20 minutes, stirring all the time to prevent it burning or sticking to the pan. Pour on to a greased dish and allow to cool slightly before cutting into squares. If you like, a few chopped nuts or seedless raisins may be added after the condensed milk. A LITTLE CRADLE You can easily make a nice little cradle for one of your smallest dolls. All you will need is a piece of wire, match-tray and matchsticks. Cut the wire into two pieces and bend it *;o that it fits into the match-tray. It will look much better if you wind some coloured wool around the wire. Now the legs. Glue the legs on with strong glue, or the wire made to look like the other legs. If this cradle is wanted for a b'g doll, a box may be used instead of the match-tray.—Sent for the Glory Box by Margaret Ryan, aged 8, Woodville.
