ACCIDENTAL DEATH

Man Crushed Against Tree WORKING ON A DRAY Dominion Special Service. , Palmerston North, August 3. A verdict of accidental death was returned by the district coroner, Mr. A. J. Graham, at an inquest this morning on Herbert James Carroll, a single man, aged 41 years, who died in the Palmerston North Hospital on July 19 of shock and haemorrhage. Ivan Waugh said he and Mr. Carroll were engaged carting firewood at Taonui when a piece of wood fell from the cart on to the horse. The horse had galloped forward, and Mr. Carroll’s right arm had been jammed between the dray and the tree. Witness said the horse was quiet and that the dray had been close to the tree when the wool fell from it.
