"Fireproof" ovenware will live up to its name more consistently if it is soaked in cold water for several days before it is used, then brought to the boil, Milk puddings which are liable to boil over in the oven should be placed in a tin containing a little water. This will not only obviate the cleaning of many a burnt oven shelf, but will also prevent the pudding from sticking or burning on to its own dish. If an egg-poacher is not at hand, a small pastry-cutter placed in the pan will serve the same purpose.
