MYSTERY TRAINS
Week-end Adventure by Rail Next Sunday, August 7, will see the first of New Zealand’s mystery trains. Wellington’s “mystery train” will start from Thorndon Station at 10.5 In the morning and arrive back at 5.50 p.m., but all between is shrouded in impenetrable mystery. The Railway Departmetn is keeping its plans a profound secret, but a perfect day’s enjoyment has been arranged for all who will trust themselves on this wonder day’s outing. The public simply have to board the train and leave themselves in capable hands for the rest of the time. The “mystery train” is intended to appeal specially to trampers, but happy hours are also assured for those who are not disposed to undertake the total of eight miles easy tramping for which this trip provides.
Similar enterprise in Great Britain, America, and Australia has proved remarkably popular, and it anticipated that New Zealanders will be equally eager for these romantic excursions—outings where they are relieved of all planning, enjoy surprises by the way, and have a maximum of pleasure at a minimum of cost. Included in the services which the Railways are providing for their travellers are guides to assist on the journey, and free hot water at the place chosen for luncheon.
The Tararua Tramping Club has been consulted and is enthusiastic about the venture.
