FOUND IN WAREHOUSE

Young Man Before Court ALLEGED THEFT OF GOODS When Constable Gettins was trying the doors of the buildings on his beat shortly before 11 o’clock on Monday night, he noticed a door open in the warehouse of Messrs. N. W. Stevens, Ltd., 82 Ghuznee Street. He entered and, while searching the building, came upon a young man who was hiding behind a large box, and who had with him a leather bag and a quantity of goods which had evidently been taken from the warehouse stock. The young man, Leslie Joseph Murphy, aged 24, was arrested and taken to the Taranaki Street Police Station, where it was found that the goods in his possession comprised a leather bag, an electric kettle and fittings, two pots of peanut butter, three jars of pickles, a two-cell electric torch, three torch batteries, a fountain pen, three pencils, a nail file, a paper cutter, a knife, a fork, a spoon, two cloth bags, a pair of men’s gloves, four handkerchiefs, a tube of dental cream, and a quantity of biscuits. Murphy appeared before Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday charged with breaking and entering the warehouse and stealing goods to a total value of £lO. On the application of Senior-Ser-geant Scott accused was remanded until August 10.
