THEFT FROM MUSEUM

Casts of Cameos and Seals DONE BY AN EXPERT Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, August 2. About 40 casts of ancient Greek cameos and seals were taken from their cases in the Alexander Museum, Wanganui, during the week-end. The cases were hanging on the wall of a bay in the museum, out of sight of the office or of anyone in the main part of the museum. It is thought that two people must have been concerned in the robbery, one to open the cases while the other one watched. The usual Monday morning polishing of the glass cases was completed before the police were notified, and so all the finger prints were destroyed. However, as the selection of casts taken comprised the very best in the collection, the theft was not carried out by an ordinary thief, but by a collector with discernment.
