BRIGHT SPOTS IN THE NEWS
The Wellington agency for one of the principal makes of English motorcars reports the sale last week of three cars in the above £5OO price class.
Reviewing the proceedings at Ottawa to date, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Exchequer, said he cherished the highest hopes of a successful outcome.
An increased demand, spread over most classes of stocks and shares, was shown by yesterday's closing quotation list on the Wellington Stock Exchange. Prices generally continued firm and the 13 sales recorded were made at full market rates.
Indications of a revival in the shipping trade arp reported by the “Sydney Morning Herald.” There is‘an increase in the number of outward sailings, and incoming vessels are carrying larger cargoes.

“We went out looking for complaints but we could not find any,” said Mr. J. Spence, secretary of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association, when reviewing a visit of seven members of the executive to the two camps for unemployed returned soldiers at Paraparaumu. “The old soldier spirit, the determination to make the best of conditions, and make themselves comfortable is much in evidence among the men in these camps,” Mr. Spence added.
“It is a difficult task to sit down and write a serious composition on the dark spots in one’s personal environment.” states the superintendent of Maori missions for the Wellington diocese in a cheery report in the “Church Chronicle.” He adds: “Somehow the bright spots wil persist in dancing before one’s eyes, and in preventing a prolonged gaze into the darker background.
